Night to Shine 2020, Canceled

Our February 7, 2020 Night to Shine event resulted in a postponement due to a snowstorm.  We decided that day, for our guests’ and volunteers’ safety,  to reschedule the event. As you know, we rescheduled our Night to Shine event to March 28, 2020.

As we look at the landscape of the world, we have been closely monitoring information on the coronavirus.  To the best of our knowledge, at this time, we have no reported cases of the coronavirus in Broome County.  However, NY state and neighboring states do have reports of confirmed coronavirus.  Governor Cuomo has declared a state of emergency.  In addition, on March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization has announced that that the coronavirus is now considered a Global Pandemic. NCAA has limited their events so no fans are in attendance.  A  letter had been sent to parents and participants to the Special Olympics in  New York that  training and competition is currently suspended.  Pennsylvania, about 10 minutes from our border, has also suspended the Special Olympics.  As you know, this is the same population that is scheduled to attend our event.

The health and safety of our 350 special guests and volunteers is first and foremost in our minds. Based on the best information we have today, it is with heavy heart that we are cancelling Night to Shine 2020.  Our sincere thanks for all those who offered to volunteer, our vendors and all those who were invested this event.
